GLP-1 Weight Loss Medication —
FAQs

1. What are GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) medications are prescription treatments that help regulate blood sugar levels and appetite. They work by mimicking a natural hormone in your body, slowing digestion and improving the way your pancreas releases insulin.

2. How do GLP-1s help with weight loss?

GLP-1s slow stomach emptying and signal the brain that you’re full sooner, leading to reduced appetite and smaller portions. Many patients experience consistent weight loss when combined with a healthy lifestyle.

3. Are GLP-1 medications safe?

Yes, when prescribed and monitored by a healthcare provider. Like all medications, there can be side effects. The most common are nausea, constipation, or diarrhea, which usually improve as your body adjusts.

4. How are GLP-1s taken?

Most GLP-1 medications are given as a small, once-weekly injection under the skin (similar to an insulin pen).

5. Do I need to follow a specific diet?

You don’t have to follow a strict diet, but eating smaller, balanced meals helps minimize side effects and improve results. Your provider or health coach can guide you with nutrition support.

6. How quickly will I see results?

Weight loss and blood sugar improvements vary by person. Many patients notice changes in appetite within the first few weeks, with steady weight loss over several months.

7. Will I need to stay on the medication forever?

Not always. Some patients stay on GLP-1s long-term to maintain results, while others transition off with lifestyle support. Your provider will help decide the best plan for you.

8. Who should NOT take GLP-1s?

GLP-1 medications are not recommended if you have a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers, pancreatitis, or specific gastrointestinal conditions. Your provider will review your medical history before prescribing.

9. Are GLP-1s covered by insurance?

Coverage varies widely. Our clinic does not accept insurance. We do however accept HSA or FSA for payments on all medical and wellness services.

10. What happens if I miss a dose?

If you miss a weekly dose, take it as soon as you remember (if it’s within a few days). If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Always ask your provider for guidance.
